GETTIN' TO KNOW EMILY

I haven't posted too many personal deets about myself in the past on this blog, so I thought I'd answer a few questions (based on the Inspiring Souls interview series that will be a new feature coming soon to BTM) for today's post, just to give you the chance to get to know the girl behind the keyboard...

1. Describe your health approach in three words.
Simple, kind and passionate.
2. How did you gain your ‘health nut’ status? (What led to your decision to choose this lifestyle?).
I've always been interested in health and fitness, since my final years of high school. But recently I've opened my mind and read, lived and breathed all things health and wellness. I've completely reassessed the way I was living and am probably the happiest and healthiest 'me' that I have ever been.
3. What is the most over used ingredient in your kitchen?
Tea! I absolutely love tea. My favourite is authentically brewed chai but love me some berry infused and plain ole' english breakfast too! Other than that, spinach tends to feature in a lot o' dishes in my humble kitchen.
4. What have been the greatest challenges for you in your quest for total health?
Fighting off misconceptions and other people's opinions who might not understand or appreciate the choices that I make. Being a young, health conscious chika can be pretty challenging when everyone around me is still in the 'life's too short to eat healthy' mindset, which is totally cool but just isn't where my head's at. Sometimes I worry too much and stress that everyone thinks of me as a boring, crazy, wheatgrass shootin' hippy. But the people close to me are all incredibly supportive and show me endless love. I am so grateful for this 'posse'!
5. Who are your greatest influences and inspirations?
Kris Carr, Jess Ainscough and Gabrielle Bernstein - incredible and strong women! Plus the entire 'fit fam' crew on instagram - there are incredible people out there doing incredible things - they blow me away.
6. What has been your most radical change?
Cutting way down on my intake of animal products and completely cutting out dairy. It's made such a profound difference to my health and general wellbeing.
7. Recipe for success? (What are the elements of your lifestyle that you believe best support your health?)
A support crew that love and honour your choices + an open mind + a love of nutritious, whole foods + movement and sweat + love, compassion and appreciation.
8. Describe your perfect day.
Wake up at 6:30am, give David a kiss and cuddle, massive in-bed stretch to wake up all my muscles, out for breakfast with my love/the girls/my family somewhere pretty like the beach, a run/walk/ride with pup, cooking a batch of healthy treats for my loved ones, cooking dinner with David and sitting outside or on the beach, a cup of tea and a good book to send me off to sleep.
9. Favourite way to sweat?
Running (most of the time); high intensity group fitness classes; yoga; netball; bush walks; anything with a friend!
10. What are your words to live by? (Favourite affirmations, mantras, quotes…)
'Be the change you wish to see in the world' - it encapsulates everything I'm about.
11. Message for the wannabe wellies? (Final thoughts on health/fitness or anything at all!)
Find your own path - the path that leads you to abundant health, love and happiness. And remember that it may not look like everyone else's, and that's ok, in fact that's beautiful! Create an amazing, bright and miraculous life for yourself by nourishing, treasuring and prioritising yourself every single day.

Blessings from my authentic self x

  1. Hi Emily, it's great to know that there are young people who care about wellness - I see and hear so many who seem to live a self-destructive lifestyle & worry what the future will hold for them. Don't worry about other people's perception of you - being true to yourself is the only path to happiness. :-)
